Add your email history
Upload emails you already have, yours and your competitors’, as .eml files or a .zip, or send many at once from Gmail. Step by step.
The quickest way to get value from Signal is to add the emails you already have: your own past campaigns, and the competitor newsletters sitting in your inbox. Your comparisons then start from day one instead of from today.
Everything happens on Import emails in the sidebar.
Way 1: upload files
- Save the emails as .eml files (see below for your mail app).
- On Import emails, choose Your brand's emails or Competitor emails, and pick the brand.
- Drop the files, or a .zip of them, into the box, and click Upload.
You can upload as many as you like; big uploads are sent in batches with a progress bar.
Way 2: many at once from Gmail
- In Gmail, tick the emails you want (up to about 100 at a time).
- Click ⋮ (More) and choose Forward as attachment.
- Send it to your import address. You find it on Import emails, with a Copy button.
How to save emails as .eml files
- Gmail: open the email → ⋮ → Download message.
- Apple Mail: select the emails and drag them into a folder in Finder. Each one becomes an .eml file. Right-click the folder → Compress, and upload the .zip.
- Outlook on the web: open the email → ⋯ → Download. In new Outlook for Windows: ⋯ → Save as. Check that the file ends in .eml.
- Thunderbird: select the emails → right-click → Save As.
Classic Outlook for Windows saves .msg files, which we can't read. Use Outlook on the web instead.
What happens next
- We review every upload before it joins the archive. An email file can say it is from anyone, so a person checks it.
- When it is approved, you get a notification and an email.
- You can follow each upload under Your uploads on the same page: In review, Approved or Rejected.
Good to know
- Approved emails join that brand's shared archive: everyone who tracks the brand can see them, just like the newsletters we collect ourselves. Newsletters are public marketing, so nothing private is shared.
- Personal details are removed automatically: your name in a greeting, your email address, member and order numbers, points and similar.
- You see a competitor's emails when you track that competitor.
- On the Free plan you see the last 6 months. Older emails are kept and appear when you have full access.
- An email already in the archive is not added twice.
- Each file can be up to 9 MB. If you upload thousands at once, the uploader may pause and tell you when to continue.
